Over 90% of Ukrainian media lost all their income, and at least 30% of the media were shut down, leaving thousands of journalists without jobs. The salaries of 50% of those who were lucky enough to keep their job were seriously reduced, according to a survey conducted by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).

The media industry in the country has never gone through such turbulent times. Before the war, there were around 35,000 journalists working in different media outlets in Ukraine. Now, it is hard to estimate how many active journalists are still left in Ukraine today.

According to NUJU, 25% of Ukrainian journalists have worked without a salary since February 24th, and about 33% of media workers were sent on unpaid leave.
